Raelene Harrison (Racing Victoria)

Raelene Harrison is the Equine Welfare Manager at Racing Victoria. She is responsible for equine welfare before, during and after racing. This includes stable inspections, attendance at race meetings, implementation of Racing Victoria’s Equine Welfare Strategic Plan, liaising with government and welfare groups and management of post racing welfare strategies and programs (including the Racing Victoria Off The Track program). Raelene owns two off the track racehorses that she retrained following their retirement from racing. She regularly rides her horses. Prior to commencing at RV, and in a limited capacity since, Raelene is Principal of her own law firm that specialises in legal and governance services for the animal law, animal welfare and ethics and equine sectors. Raelene Harrison is a Senior Fellow in the Melbourne Law Masters program at the University of Melbourne. Raelene has a number of postgraduate qualifications in law, including two Masters and a Graduate Diploma in Sports Law. Raelene has a Bachelor of Equine Science. She is currently studying a Master of Agricultural Science majoring in Animal Science at the University of Melbourne. In 2017, she will commence a Master of International Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law. Raelene is a director and committee member on a number of boards and committees in the animal and veterinary sectors.
